Days, Hours, Minutes, Seconds

Formed in the summer of 1996 by three former members of The University of Plymouth Shooting Club, the initial plan was for an alumni club for Plymouth University. After a few teething troubles the club grew in numbers and soon changed to allow members from other universities around the country, in an attempt to bring shooters together with different backgrounds. This year the club has taken the step to open membership further and remove the former university student criteria.
Our aim, pardon the pun, is a simple one: To promote the interests of shooters. We intend to provide a club that caters for all types of shooting from air gun to full bore rifle and everything in-between. We feel that for shooting to thrive we must put aside the current us and them attitudes in the sport and realise that we are a single sport that comes in a variety of flavours.
We currently shoot one a month at weekends, usually starting in April, and finish in October. We also hold an annual Christmas fun shoot, after which we hold our prizegiving and have the Christmas meal. Our normal format is to have half a day on Century range between 300 and 600 yards. We always have at least two 7.62mm target rifles, usually one with a scope and bipod and one with traditional iron sights. We can also hire a variety of other calibre of rifle from the National Rifle Association. The other half of the day is spent on Melville range with gallery rifles and .22 semi-automatic rifles. This is a 25 yard range and we do a number of different courses of fire, mostly variations on former pistol courses of fire. On the Sunday of our shooting weekend we generally leave it up to the members attending to organise themselves. We can book targets on Melville or Cheylesmore for more gallery rifle or some archery. Some book time at Lord Robert's Centre for .22 rifle or air gun and some just recover from the previous night's festivities.
About once every two years we try to arrange a shoot abroad, sometimes not that far from home, to do some shooting not available to us in this country. Our last trip was to Northern Ireland for 3 days to do some pistol shooting and we do get invitations to shoot on the Isle of Man, another pistol friendly place.
